ACU running back Billy McCrary scores the second touchdown for the Wildcats in the last season’s opener at Baylor. McCrary, a transfer from Cal, returns for the 2019 season after running for 724 yards and eight TDs last season, while also catching 28 passes for 191 yards and two TDs. He was the Southland Conference’s newcomer of the year.
The Abilene Christian football team will have its annual Purple-White spring game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Wildcat Stadium.
The game wraps up spring ball for the Wildcats, who are coming off their first winning season since going 6-5 in 2013.
ACU went 6-5 overall this past season, including 5-4 in the Southland Conference under second-year coach Adam Dorrell. The Wildcats had a shot at making the playoffs but lost to Central Arkansas 16-7 in the regular-season finale at Wildcat Stadium. The loss dropped ACU into a tie with three other teams for fourth – a game back of third-place Lamar.
ACU opens the season against the University of North Texas on Aug. 31 in Denton.
